I offer bespoke one-to-one mentoring in the fields of fiction and memoir/life writing for writers at all stages of experience from complete beginners to published authors. This usually takes the form of monthly hour-long meetings that can be in person or online for a period of time from six months to a year or more.
“Rachel has a real talent for coaching writers. She asks great questions, and also knows when to pause and allow writers to encounter the insight for themselves.” Ursula Hurley, Professor of Life Writing, The University of Salford
“Rachel’s mentorship style is both encouraging and gently challenging. She is both intuitive and responsive. I always feel that she is as passionate about what I'm writing as I am and I find this really motivating. Meeting with her regularly gives me the impetus to finish a piece of writing, knowing that I will go away from the session with insightful feedback and a clear sense of what is next. She has helped me to use writing as a way of channelling my own story through a creative process and to find peace and understanding through this. Thanks to her, I have found something which brings me joy and fulfilment every time I pick up a pen.” Maurice Carlin, Director, Islington Mill
“As an established non-fiction author moving over to fiction, I found Rachel’s insights into my work both refreshing and helpful. Without being prescriptive, Rachel has not only helped me solve problems with the narrative voice of my novel, but has also opened up whole new perspectives regarding plot and characterisation that I had not considered. As a result, I believe my work has become much richer.” Dixe Wills, journalist & author
